51st Meeting of German Historians
From 20 to 23 September 2016, the 51st Meeting of German Historians was held at Hamburg University.
The event is organised by the German Historical Association (VHD) in partnership with the German History Teachers Association (VGD). Universität Hamburg Marketing GmbH (UHHMG) provided advice and assistance to association representatives during the planning phase and provided on-site service, registration management and hotel management.
The theme of the 51st Meeting of German Historians was “Questions of Faith”, an investigation of the history of religion from an academic, intellectual history and other perspectives. On 20 September, the Bureau of Science, Research and Equality invited special guests to attend the opening ceremony at 12:00 noon as part of a Senate reception in Hamburg’s City Hall. Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz opened the conference in his capacity as patron of the Meeting of German Historians. The formal opening speech was held by Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs.
At the exhibition of history publishers and organisations held as part of the Meeting of German Historians, more than 100 publishing houses, institutions and associations presented their latest programmes and projects in the areas of research, culture and education..
The Meeting of German Historians is Europe’s largest humanities convention, with attendance of over 3,500.
